Dear competitor, local triathletes, sponsors, and sports community:
As triathletes and organizers we completely understand the concern and discomfort surrounding the Challenge Baja – Ensenada date change.
What happened in Ensenada is due to the late notification from the federal and municipal authorities, around the request to modify the original route (Road 1 to Rosarito) and instead use a different road (Road 3 to Tecate), which, as it is perfectly documented, is under construction at the beltway intersection to Ensenada.
Unfortunately, it was determined that the SCT (Secretary of Communications and Transport) wouldn’t be able to finish this construction work by December 2 of the current year. The only alternative would’ve been to use very narrow lanes, shared with open traffic, putting the competitor’s safety at risk.
The integrity of our participants is non-negotiable, therefor we decided, along with the state, municipal, and federal authorities, as well as sponsors, to modify the date of the Challenge Baja – Ensenada triathlon, a verdict we feel is the best option.
The new date (March 10, 2019) is unequivocally confirmed as the opening of the new route. We are working with our sponsors to offer an even better Challenge Baja – Ensenada event, and the details of these improvements will be announced during the upcoming weeks.
We thank you for understanding and look forward to seeing you next March 10, 2019 at Challenge Baja – Ensenada.
